Mummify a tomato

Teach children about the fascinating process of mummification by mummifying a tomato. Follow the steps below to learn what was dine to dead bodies in ancient Egypt.

  1. Clean the outside of a tomato with hand sanitiser.
  2. Make a small cut into the tomato skin.
  3. Scoop out the seeds.
  4. Fill the hollow tomato with salt.
  5. Place in a container and completely cover with salt.
  6. Leave for two weeks.
  7. Remove the salt and wrap the tomato in strips of kitchen roll.
  8. Make a box and place the tomato inside.
  9. Make a pyramid and place the box inside.
