Diary Entry

Pupils write a diary entry from the point of view of Fern recalling the events of Chpter 1 of the novel.

How to use this resource pack:

  1. Read Chapter 1 of the novel. Discuss.
  2. Share the WAGOLL with pupils and discuss its features.
  3. Pupils identify the features of a diary entry using the Feature Find sheet and answers.
  4. Pupils plan and write their own diary entry from the point of view of Fern or another character from the story, using the differentiated templates.

Character Profile

Pupils write a character profile about Charlotte or one the other characters from Charlotte’s Web such as Fern or Wilbur.

Pupils write a non-chronological report or information text about one the animals from the story.

The model text is about barn spiders, the same species of spider as the character Charlotte. However, pupils could choose which animal from the novel to research and write about, such as spiders, pigs, rats, geese or sheep.

  2. Examine its features using the Feature Find sheet and answers.
  3. Label the layout features of a non-chronological report.
  4. Sort the sentences about pigs into sections.
  5. Plan and write a non-chronological report using the templates.
